What Powers Do Saudi Traffic Inspectors Have?

Last updated 7/6/20260 viewsProvisional

Under Articles 19 and 20, Saudi transport inspectors can investigate violations and must be given full access to documents and facilities by all staff.

Saudi transport inspectors have significant powers under the Road Transport Law. Article 19 states that inspectors appointed by the President of the General Authority for Land Transport are authorized to detect and investigate violations of the Law, its Regulations, and the terms of any license. They may act individually or as a team.

Article 20 further requires that officers and employees at locations subject to inspection must actively cooperate with inspectors — enabling them to perform their duties and providing any requested information and documents. Obstruction or failure to cooperate is itself a violation of the Law.

As an expat business owner or employee in the transport sector, you should ensure all licenses, vehicle documents, and operational records are kept up to date and readily accessible for inspection. Inspectors may visit your premises, vehicles, or facilities at any time. Maintaining full compliance with Article 13 (operational requirements, vehicle identity standards, and other service provider obligations) is the best way to avoid penalties during an inspection.
